My husband hadn’t seen his hometown since he’d walked across the stage at Eastern High School in Middletown, Ken. in 1968, but the invitation to attend his 50-year high school reunion aroused his curiosity.
ReplyDeleteLooking through his old high school yearbook brought back memories of high-school pranks, dances, football games and track meets.
A few months later, we found ourselves on an airplane headed to Louisville, curious as to who’d come to the reunion and how their lives had unfolded.

A few months later, we were on an airplane headed for Kentucky.
After landing, we walked the path Rick walked each morning and afternoon, to and from school. We took a lap around the track where Rick participated in cross country.
Walking the streets of quaint Middletown, we found the barber shop where Rick, his father and brothers all went regularly for a trim to stay presentable.
That evening we gathered with fellow classmates at the Bristol on Bardstown Road in the Highland’s neighborhood of Louisville. Everyone was happy to reconnect. Stories were shared and photos of children were pasted around. Old friends are not easily forgotten. We were glad we made the journey. All in all, we were glad we made the journey and we learned how lives had unfolded since high school.
